Spotlight: Uganda
Uganda faces a significant challenge with a shortage of qualified teachers, particularly in rural areas. Alongside overcrowded classrooms, many educators are expected to teach the entire range of school subjects single-handedly, without proper support or training.
EqualEd is working closely with the Dream Africa network, which operates schools across the country. Through our Volunteachers Programme, we provide lessons delivered by specialist subject teachers in English, maths and science, improving the accessibility of high-quality teaching for every young learner.

Today, we’re more connected and have access to more resources than ever. Yet, hundreds of millions aren’t getting the education they need. In fact, UNICEF reports, ‘learning poverty has increased by a third in low- and middle-income countries, with an estimated 70% of 10-year-olds unable to understand a simple written text.’
This generation of students now risks losing $21 trillion in potential lifetime earnings, or the equivalent of 17% of today’s global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
With the right technology, and the expert knowledge of our passionate volunteers, we can break down the barriers of location, skills shortages, and financial means, improving education standards globally.
